Implementation of sulfuric acid leaching for aluminum and iron removal for improvement of low-grade silica from quartz sand of Sukabumi, Indonesia

Indonesia has very abundant reserves of silica, but progressive studies on the deposition this material are few, resulting in limited applications silica. This work refers to purification silica from quartz sand originated Sukabumi, obtain high-purity which can be applied as important raw materials for special purposes. The aim our research is improve low-grade by removing impurities, especially aluminum and iron removal, using sulfuric acid leaching. In order achieve aim, effect reaction time concentration leaching process was investigated. effectiveness impurities removal observed. chemical composition samples before after studied X-ray fluorescence. mineralogical analysis starting products conducted diffraction. Microstructure performed a scanning electron microscope, EDS test used show element at different points. experimental results that optimum condition occurs 5 hours with 10 N. levels increase 93.702 % 96.438 %. Aluminum reduced 4.691 2.712 0.641 0.094 %, respectively. At point, effective remove up 42 85 significant opportunity value added enhance quality provide better glass industries.
